JAMMU, Oct 24: To discuss the prevailing political situation in the regions of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh which will be transformed into two separate Union territories from November 1, BJP Core Group held a meeting at party Headquarters here, this evening.
The meeting was chaired by BJP State president, Ravinder Raina and it was attended by three general secretaries, Ashok Kaul, Dr Narinder Singh, Yudhvir Sethi, MPs, Jugal Kishore Sharma and Shamsher Singh Manhas, Speaker, Dr Nirmal Singh, former Minister , Sat Sharma and chief spokesperson of the party, advocate Sunil Sethi.
The party also discussed its role in the changing situation in the State being the largest political party in the State as well as the country. The outcome of Block Development Council (BDC) elections and Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana also came for discussion in the meeting.
Meanwhile, according to sources some senior leaders in the party have not shown their satisfaction over the performance of the party in BDC polls in Jammu and Kashmir. They have held the infighting within the party a cause of the dismal performance, sources added.
Sources said one of the reasons for the dismal performance in Nagrota, Vijaypur, R S Pura, Akhnoor, Udhampur , Chenani and Ramnagar, Bhalwal was the infighting and some of the party leaders support to rebel candidates. Taking serious exception to it these leaders have urged party to have introspection for the damage control in future.
Sources said some of the party leaders have also voiced concern over giving preference to the leaders and activists from other parties in BJP by ignoring the dedicated activists who stood by the party through every thick and thin when it was in opposition in the State and at the Centre.
Sources said failure of party leadership to project the demands of the people before the High Command has been also one of the causes of resentment among the party cadre and people. The Toll Plaza issue is one among it. One of the senior party leaders on condition of anonymity said imposition of taxes on common masses without applying mind whether they can afford to pay the same or not has been also a cause of resentment among the masses against the party.
Sources said losing of seats hands down in Ramnagar, Chenani, Vijaypur , Marh even in Satwari and Bhalwal has been due to party infighting and campaigning by some annoyed party leaders in favour of rebel candidates. The BJP which was once known for the party discipline has become most in disciplined party in J&K, sources added.
Sources said some leaders have even questioned the output when day in and day out the party was organising joining programmes of Panches and Sarpanches saying that this has failed to yield tangible results.
