Some ‘land-mafia’ men running PDP affairs in Jammu: Surinder

JAMMU, Oct 7: Senior PDP leader and Member Legislative Council (MLC) Surinder Choudhary from Nowshera has alleged that some `land- mafia’ men were running the party affairs in Jammu while the top party leadership seems to be ignorant of their activities.
These utterances were made by the senior PDP leader after he was ignored by the party cadre in Jammu division, over the issue of a party- delegation meeting with its detained president Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar today. Choudhary alleged that those involved in the decision did not take on board the main leadership in Jammu.
Talking to the Excelsior this evening, the PDP general secretary alleged that some “land grabbers and land mafia men” within the party have taken the decision regarding the meeting. Where the meeting was held, most of the party leaders here did not know. They perhaps met in the house of one of the members, part of proposed 18-member delegation to Srinagar.
“Within hours of announcing that a team of party leaders from Jammu led by a `self- styled’ general secretary will meet Mehbooba in Srinagar today following permission from administration, the PDP Legislator said it was later decided to defer the scheduled meeting.
“They are not the well wishers of the party. They have severely damaged its base in Jammu region. I am sure some of them will even fail, if sent for a narco- test,” a visibly furious Choudhary said.
The PDP MLC said Mehbooba is under detention since August 5, the day Centre abrogated the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution and announced bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories.
“I do not know where the (PDP) meeting took place and who took this decision regarding sending a delegation to meet Mehbooba. I visited Kashmir twice after the abrogation of Article 370 to meet Mehbooba but was denied permission by local authorities,” Choudhary said.
The MLC said PDP is not the B team of National Conference’s to follow its footsteps. “Why not a meeting was convened to discuss the prevailing situation, post- abrogation of Article 370.”
