SOG recovers 185 kg poppy straw, nabs 2

JAMMU, Mar 8: The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu district police along with sleuths from Bagh- e-Bahu Police Station, achieved a major success by recovering huge quantity of poppy straw which was being smuggled in a truck towards Punjab from J&K.
A police party intercepted a Punjab bound truck with registration number PB-13BE/0768 on National Highway under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bagh- e- Bahu of district Jammu this evening.
The accused driver and conductor of the truck who were smuggling the contraband in the truck have been identified as Nitesh Kumar, son of MP Morya from Govindgarh, Ludhiana and Parmod Kumar, son of Ram Aasre from Tandare in Ludhiana.
The SOG Jammu team was led by Insp Sudhir Sharma and another team by SHO Sunil Sharma from Bagh-e-Bahu Thana. During checking, another truck bearing number PB-23 J/ 5843 was intercepted and put to thorough checking. During search of the truck which was loaded with Gypsum a total of 185 kilograms of poppy straw which was concealed in the specially made cavity inside the truck was recovered. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.
In this regard a case FIR No. FIR no 31/2020 u/s 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered. The whole operation was closely monitored by SSP SOG Jammu Sandeep Mehta and supervised by SSP Jammu, Shridhar Patil.
