JAMMU, Apr 4: Sajad Gani Lone, Minister for Social Welfare, ARI & Trainings and Science & Technology, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan.
Lone discussed with the Governor about the various important initiatives taken by the departments and agencies under his charge and the current implementation status of the various Central and State schemes in the social welfare sector.
Governor discussed with Lone several serious problems faced by disabled persons and stressed the high importance which requires to be devoted to the effective management of the entire disability sector in the State.
Abdul Haq Khan, Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Law & Justice also called on Governor and briefed him about important matters relating to the areas of his responsibility and about the arrangements made to defend the various important cases being heard in the apex court.
He also informed about the Government’s plans to hold Panchayat elections later this year; progress achieved by the State in construction of individual household toilets in the rural areas after the launch of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014. Khan informed that the J&K Government’s aim is to become Open Defecation Free (ODF) by October 2019.
Governor spoke to Khan about the crucial importance of ensuring the timely implementation of all rural development schemes and emphasized the high importance of ensuring cleanliness and sanitation in all the village areas.
Usman Majeed, MLA Bandipora also met Governor and discussed issues relating to the maintenance of peace and normalcy in the State and initiatives required to be taken to foster the interests of youth.
Governor appreciated Majeed’s concerns and urged him to continue sustained efforts for promoting a peaceful environment which would enable the development and welfare of the people of the State.
