Social reform initiative

Sir,
There was an era when the media, the social organisations and other volunteers used to raise voice against rising social evils like dowry, pomp and show  in marriages and other functions.  However, today the atmosphere is altogether different. Lavish spending in marriages and on banquets, countless stalls, and numerous varieties of vegetables or non-vegetable items are at display and are in competition with each other.  Marriage was thought a pious occasion. We see written on invitation cards some sayings like  marriages are settled in heaven and celebrated on earth.” Today this pious occasion stands converted into cocktail parties. Sound pollution through high frequency speakers risks the drums of the ears. The marriages are organised in such a way as if only drinking and eating are the part of the marriage functions.
A few years ago, Government came out with an order, putting ban on playing of loud music. Nevertheless, it is on papers and is a complete failure like that of Guest Control orders. More surprising is that if you spend more lavishly on the marriages you are considered more respectable person. Some months ago media carried the news of a person on the front page who went to tie the nuptial knot in a helicopter as if he had done some heroic work.
Everybody wants to plunge in politics. Today we do not see any social reformer taking lead to reform the society. It is an unbridled situation now. Hope someone would come and enlighten the society but without doing politics. However, it seems a distant dream.
Yours etc…..
