SRINAGAR, Nov 17: Higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall today while Srinagar-Leh highway that was closed for traffic in the morning due to fresh snowfall in Zojila was opened for vehicular traffic this afternoon.
An official said that Gulmarg in North Kashmir received fresh snowfall again today. He said two inches of snow had accumulated in the meadows of Gulmarg till evening. The nearby higher reaches also received moderate snowfall. The upper reaches of Budgam district in Central Kashmir received season’s first snowfall today. Rains lashed plains of Kashmir including Srinagar city today in the afternoon. However, the weather improved later but sky remained cloudy.
The vehicular movement on Srinagar-Leh Highway remained suspended this morning due to snowfall at Sonamarg, Zero Point and Zojila. However, Border Roads Organization (BRO) pressed its machinery into service and cleared snow from Zojila. The Highway was thrown open in the afternoon.
A traffic official said that traffic also remained suspended on Bandipora-Gurez road due to snowfall at Razdan Pass. The official said that the traffic movement on Mughal Road in southern Kashmir was restored today after 4 pm.
According to Meteorological Department, maximum temperature in summer capital Srinagar was recorded at 10.7 degree Celsius while night temperature settled at 2.9 degree Celsius.  Qazigund recorded 9.0 degree Celsius maximum temperature while minimum temperature was at 4.4 degree Celsius. Pahalgam recorded 7.9 degree Celsius day temperature and night temperature settled at 1.4 degree Celsius.
The MeT official said maximum temperature in Gulmarg was recorded 2.0 degree Celsius while the night temperature was -5.6 degree Celsius.
Kokernag in South Kashmir recorded 7.6 degree Celsius maximum temperature and 2.6 degree Celsius minimum temperature. The day temperature in Kupwara settled at 11.6 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature was at 1.7 degree Celsius. Leh recorded -6.9 degree Celsius minimum temperature and night temperature in Kargil settled at -5.6 degree Celsius. The MeT department said that there is possibility of light rain during next 24 hours.
