Snow, rain dip temp in Valley

Srinagar, Mar 6: As the higher reaches in Kashmir had fresh light snowfall and plains rains, the temperature dipped further in summer capital Srinagar.
A Meteorological Department official told Excelsior that rains lashed all parts of Kashmir valley on second day as well. He said the highest rainfall was recorded in frontier Kupwara district of north Kashmir followed by Gulmarg.
Kupwara recorded 3.4 millimeters of rain from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, Gulmarg 2.8, Srinagar 1.3, Kokernag 1.7 and Pahalgam 1.8. The MeT official said that there was light snowfall in Gulmarg while almost all the upper reaches received snow as well.
With rains on the second consecutive day, the day temperature in Srinagar witnessed further dip today. The official said that the rains brought down day temperature in Srinagar one notch as the mercury settled at 15.2degree Celsius compared to 16.3 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature in the summer capital settled at 4.6 degree Celsius.
Qazigund recorded 13.9 degree Celsius maximum temperature while minimum temperature settled at 4.6 degree Celsius. Pahalgam recorded 12.4 degree Celsius day temperature and night temperature settled at 4.0 degree Celsius.
The MeT official said maximum temperature in Gulmarg was recorded 3.6 degree Celsius while the night temperature settled at minus 1.2 degree Celsius, which is the lowest in Valley. Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded 14.3 degree Celsius maximum temperature and 5.5 degree Celsius minimum temperature.
The day temperature in Kupwara settled at 13.5 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 2.8 degree Celsius. Leh, which is also called cold desert, recorded a 13.4 degree Celsius maximum temperature but the minimum was -2.6 degree Celsius. The nearby Kargil recorded 12.0 degree Celsius maximum temperature and night temperature was -3.2 degree Celsius.

The MeT official said that light rain/thundershowers are expected at few place over the State in next 24 hours and then there would be improvement in the weather.
