SMVDU students get 3rd position in AIU eSports

JAMMU, May 4:SMVDU  students brought laurels to the university by bagging 3rd position for the first time at All India eSports, organized by Association of Indian Universities (AIU), held at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar.
The team comprising of 7 boys namely Achyut Mishra, Adish Gupta, Anuj Happa, Varun Singh, Maheep Dubey along with substitutes Ajitesh Kohli and Shubham Choudhary, defeated teams from Punjab University, Patiala, Punjab University, Chandigarh and University of Mumbai and reached Semi finals where they lost to DAV University, Jalandhar giving them a hard fight. All students in the team are from B Tech stream. The game they took part in, was ‘Counter Strike: Global Offensive’.
This is a computer based assault video game in which two teams compete as terrorists and anti-terrorists. This game is gaining popularity among students in different colleges and universities of India and is being played professionally all around the world. This has been the largest LAN-based video gaming tournament held in India at university level. The students were awarded a cash prize of Rs 15,000 by the organization.
Vice Chancellor SMVDU, Prof. Sanjeev Jain has honoured the winning students by giving them cash reward of Rs 5000.
