JAMMU, Sept 3: Ruchi Shah, daughter of Suman and Mohan Shah, a research scholar in School of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra , has been awarded the Women’s Scientist Research Grant by DST-Government of India in the field of Life Sciences.
The “Women Scientists Scheme-A (WOS-A)” is for research in basic and applied sciences by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for providing opportunities to women scientists.
In this project, she will be carrying out “Gastric carcinoma research in population of Jammu and Kashmir” under the guidance of Dr Sawarkar Sharma, Assistant Professor, School of Biotechnology, SMVDU, Katra. Gastric cancer is the fourth most common cancer type worldwide and ranks second in terms of cancer related deaths. A very high incidence of it is been reported in India including State of Jammu and Kashmir.
