JAMMU, Mar 29: Workshop on “Scientific innovation and intellectual property rights” was organized by Department of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, in collaboration with Jammu Kashmir Department of Science Technology and innovation Council at SMVDU campus.
Prof Prabhat Ranjan, Executive Director, TIFAC, was chief guest on the occasion and he spoke about the Technology Vision 2035 prepared by TIFAC for seeking protective rights on varied fields of Science and Technology and also showcased some of the latest upcoming technologies that would be available to the common man by 2020.
Prof V Verma, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, highlighted the need for seeking Intellectual Property Rights in scientific research and also cited examples of CSIR which has been able to claim rights globally for traditional uses of medicinal plants like Neem, Ashwagandha, etc.
Dr A Goswami, Principal Scientist, IIIM, Jammu briefed the participants about the various methods for Management of Intellectual Property Rights. Er Kalyan Pottukuchi, Patent Analyst from molecular Solutions, briefed the participants about the features of patent application form and procedure. Dr Pankaj Mehta, from Central University Jammu explained the details for the procedures involved in the Patenting System in India. Dr Yashpal Khajuria from University of Jammu also spoke on the occasion.
The event was moderated by Bhanu Sharma and vote of thanks was presented by Divya Bakshi. In this workshop, more than hundred faculty and scholars of different colleges and universities of Jammu participated.
An IPR quizophile was also held at the end of the lectures and organizing team members Ruchi Shah and Sonali Verma held a written quiz examination of M.Sc and B.Tech students and three awards were given to the students. First award by bagged by Kavinay from M Sc Biotechnology, SMVDU; second award was shared by Iram from CUJ and Vandita from M Sc Biotechnology, SMVDU. Third prize was shared by Nipunta and Rabia from M Sc Biotechnology, SMVDU. The awards were presented by Prof V Verma and Prof PVKS Baba from JU.
