SMVDU observes Software Freedom Day with week long celebrations

KATRA, Sept 26: In connection with the Software Freedom Day, week long celebrations of Free & Open Source and Software (FOSS ) will conclude tomorrow at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.
The goal of week long celebrations is to sensitize the students about the benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in Government, at home, and in business — in short everywhere, and to spread the message that SMVDU is the leading technical University in J&K.
The events included in the celebrations are: Python workshop organized by Parbhat Puri (CSE 3rd year), Linux Workshop by Ishit (CSE 3rd year), Github workshop by Rishabh (CSE 4th year), Wikipedia Workshop by Narendra (CSE 3rd year), Network Security Workshop by Ravi Prakash Giri (CSE 4th year), Arduino Workshop by Bhasker Tanjea (Mechanical Engg.), Android workshop by Shubham Tiwari (CSE 4th year), Quiz competition by CSE students, Giton by CSE students and Presentation Competition by CSE students.
The SFD celebrations included screening of two FOSS oriented movies to motivate the students towards FOSS contribution. The event was organized under the guidance of Anuj Mahajan, Assistant Professor (CSE Deptt).
To further increase the FOSS enthusiasm of the students, CDs of FOSS software were distributed among students and the winners were awarded mementoes/certificates. The event was successful due to the patronage provided by VC Prof S K Jain and with the support of faculty and staff members of SMVDU.
