KATRA, Dec 24: A seminar on drug abuse was jointly organized by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) and Police Department at Spiritual Growth Centre Katra.
While addressing in the seminar, SP Reasi Vivek Gupta appealed the people to show responsibility in creating healthy atmosphere in their surroundings. Our efforts remain futile till all stakeholders of society step ahead in curbing this social blot from society, he added.
In the opening speech, ASP Katra Kulbir Singh presented a detailed summary on drug abuse and its effects on society.
He also interacted with students, prominent citizens, members of NGOs, civil society, pony-pithoos and auto drivers. He stressed that not only legal methods but sustained efforts were required for creating awareness among masses on drug abuse and its consequences.
Others, who spoke on the occasion, included Prof Varun Thripati ( Director, School of Philosophy and Culture, SMVDSB), Dr Harish Sharma, Dr Sourab (Asstt Prof. SMVDSB) and Dr.Sabita (Drug De-addiction Centre, Jammu) .
They apprised the audiences about ill effects of drugs besides how prolong use of drugs lead to Physical, Mental, Neuro, Phycological disorders? Smoking, drinking liquor and chewing pan masala are all slow poison for human body. With their use, our immune system frails and get infected by even minor diseases, with the passage of time, they explained.
Dr Sourab gave a power point presentation to make the audiences know about the economic impact on individuals who are prone to drug abuse.
Chief Prosecuting Officer (CPO) Reasi D P Singh spoke on the offences and penalities under various sections in illicit trafficking of drugs.
At last, mementos were presented to spokespersons, including Arun Sharma, Vipin Sharma and Shriuti Bajaal.
Stage proceedings were conducted by SDPO G H Sheikh and vote of thanks was given by ASP Kulbir Singh.
