KATRA, June 6: With a view to inculcate the spirit of science among the young students, a programme on ‘Science in day to day life’ was organised at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Charan Paduka, Katra.
This science outreach programme was organised by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences India (NASI), Allahabad (local chapter).
In all, 182 students from class 6th to Shastri Class Part-II participated in the programme. Prof R N Gohil, Dr Sunil Wanchoo, Dr Sanantha Vaishnavi and Prof Muneesh Gulati from NASI interacted with the students and explained to them various principles of science, particularly those pertaining to the usage of science in day to day life.
During question-answer session, the experts clarified varied concepts. The speakers also acquainted the students about glorious contributions of India to science and technology and need for imbibing scientific temper in day to day life. Noted Vedic scholar, Prof Vishwamurti Shastri, Nirdeshak and Member Governing Council for the Gurukul, delved on compatibility of science and spirituality.
Dr Arvind Karwani, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB, and Administrator of the Gurukul, emphasized on the cherished ideals of Gurukul and added that the students in Gurukul are imparted education in modern subjects like Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Social Studies and English, besides traditional subjects like Sanskrit, Ved and Joytish; with the purpose of holistic personality development in congruence with contemporary times. He added that such programmes provide an opportunity to the students to interact with experts in the varied fields and develop a scientific temper.
Among those present on the occasion, were Dr Dhananjay Mishra, Principal; Dr Devendra Rijal, Vice-Principal; Priya Khajuria, Assistant Manager, Gurukul; Komal Jamwal, Jr Manager, faculty and staff of the Gurukul.
