JAMMU, July 8: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has once again proved their expertise in orthopaedic care by giving a new lease of life to a patient who has been bedridden for more than 8 years.
The orthopaedic team lead by Dr Manish Kumar Varshney at SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital had helped the 70-year-old patient to regain his ability to walk by performing a multi-staged complex orthopaedic surgery.
Hailing from Poonch district, Noor Hussain was having a normal life until he suffered a fall in 2011. The fall injured both his hip joints. The injury affected him severely, in fact, he was not only unable to walk but also could not lift himself making him bed ridden.
Though the family took him to various eminent orthopaedic surgeons and renowned centres within and out of state, all of them refused any intervention as treating his condition required performing a complex surgery and an elaborate medical management.
As SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has been conducting out-patient clinics across the UT, the family took the patient to Dr Manish during his OPD at Rajouri. The patient was thoroughly evaluated after which Dr Manish suggested performing a two-staged surgery on the patient.
The patient was taken to SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital wherein he underwent his first surgery-a hip replacement surgery of the left hip. The surgery was performed in January 2019. The surgery was successful and the patient was able to mobilise himself with the help of a walker within two days of the surgery.
The success of first surgery and improvement in the patient’s condition boosted the morale of family. They gave the consent for the second surgery. The hip replacement for right hip was performed successfully. Today, Noor Hussain is not only able to perform his basic needs without assistance, he is even able to lead a near normal life.
