Smuggling bid foiled, 24 Khair billets seized

JAMMU, July 25: In a significant operation against illegal forest produce transportation, the field staff of Jammu Forest Division today, intercepted a Mahindra Bolero vehicle and seized 24 Khair billets in Nagrota area.
Official sources said that the alert Forest sleuths intercepted Bolero vehicle bearing registration number JK11A-5262, smuggling Khair billets. Acting on specific intelligence, the Forest field staff, led by Block Officer Nagrota-I, set up a naka at the Karli Forest Check Post.
The vehicle, traveling from Khui Pangli to Karli, ignored signals to stop and attempted to flee towards Udhampur National Highway. A chase ensued, culminating in the vehicle’s interception at Dhammi. Upon inspection, 24 illicit Khair billets were discovered concealed under a tarpaulin.
Three persons were apprehended on the spot. They are Naresh Kumar, son of son of Suraj Mani and Mohd Latif, son of Mohd Gafoor, both residents of Showa and Amanant Ali, son of Jamat Ali, hailing from from Khui Pangali. They were arrested under Section 64 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927, for violating Sections 26 and 42 of the Act and subsequently produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate.
The Mahindra Bolero No. JK11A-5262 along with 24 illicit Khairwood billets were seized under relevant sections of Indian Forest Act and confiscation proceedings were initiated by the Authorized Officer of Jammu Forest Division.
