JAMMU, Oct 29: The Department of Radio-diagnosis, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu has got approval of much needed Genetic Clinic in SMGS Hospital, Jammu.
The approval was got vide registration number CMOJ/PCPNDT/2019/55-57 dated 12-10-2019 granted by competent authority. It is worth mentioning that this is the first Genetic Clinic in the state of J&K and amongst the few only in the North India.
Consultant Radiologist in GMC Jammu, Dr Arshad Bhat, who is trained person in Fetal Echo-Cardiography and Fetal Medicine, shall be looking after the Genetic Clinic.
The patients of the State who had to go outside the State for various diagnostic and interventional procedures in Fetal Medicine like amino centesis, chorionic billi-biopsy, inter uterine blood transfusion, cordocentesis, fetal skin and organ biopsy etc, shall be largely benefitted with the opening of this Clinic.
Moreover, with the opening of this Clinic, many genetic disorders and syndromes will be diagnosed in early pregnancy and thus, appropriate remedial measures can be taken besides counseling the parents regarding future.
Speaking on the development, Dr Sunanda Raina, Principal, GMC Jammu said with the start of this highly specialized Genetic Clinic under the supervision of Department of Radio-diagnosis shall go a long way in the interest of specialized patient diagnosis and care.
She attributed this achievement to Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital, Dr Manoj Chalotra, Professor and Head, Department of Radio-diagnosis, Dr Narinder Sharma and Consultant Radiologist, Dr Arshad Bhat.
