SRINAGAR, June 12: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is conducting the floor test after no confidence motion was moved against Mayor Junaid Azim Mattoo and Commissioner has written a letter to the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar for conduct of the session.
Sources said Srinagar Muncipal Corporation has decided to conduct the floor test after they found that no floor test was conducted in last six months. Mayor Junaid Matoo had claimed that floor test was conducted already and had yet to complete six months which is mandatory.
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, Commissioner SMC Gazanafar Ali, he sent a letter to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary, seeking permission for conduct of floor test. The test will be conducted as soon as permission is granted for allowing assembly of Corporators.
A no confidence motion was moved against Mattu yesterday by at least 40 Corporators allegedly at the behest of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).
These corporators are led by former Deputy Mayor of SMC, Sheikh Imran who as per sources has kept at least 30 of the Corporators in a hotel at Nishat in Srinagar.
Junaid alleged that the no-confidence motion against him was moved by some corporators of the SMC at the behest of the BJP. He asserted that he enjoyed majority in the Municipal Corporation and would take on the challenge democratically and legally.
