SRINAGAR, Aug 2: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today sealed a building in city centre for violating building permission.
Srinagar Municipal Corpor-ation, Commissioner Dr Shafqat Khan said that sealing/demolition orders were issued for the building constructed by Farooq Ahmad Zaaz and others situated in Kothi Bagh behind Ali Jan Shopping Complex in Lal Chowk area.
“The permission was granted for ground plus five-storey building with parking at ground floor. Whereas the owners have not only violated setbacks permitted from North and West sides but also made huge deviations in plinth area and exceeded the number story as well,” it said.
Commissioner, in this regard, issued orders to seal the structure. The Financial Adviser (Department of Vigilance) was directed to immediately fix the responsibility on the concerned erring officers who had allowed the illegal portion of construction of the said complex. “Furthermore the work on the said building has immediately been stopped,” it added.
Khan said that SMC will take action against the violators in Srinagar city.
Reports said that the building was constructed last year as the owners have taken undue advantage of the unrest.
Meanwhile, the legal wing of Corporation has been directed to expedite the process of filing objections in the various courts pertaining to unlawful building activities and ensure speedy disposal and vacation of stay orders wherever such orders have been granted by respective courts.
