SMC chalks out plan for conservation of Khushalsar, Gilsar lakes

SRINAGAR, June 27: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today chalked out a plan for the effective conservation and further rejuvenation of Khushalsar, and Gilsar lakes in Srinagar city.
In this connection, a meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Commissioner SMC/ CEO Smart City during which various measures to be taken for the conservation of these water bodies were discussed at length.
During the meeting, a threadbare discussion was held on the removal of encroachments, prevention of illegal landfilling, dredging and muck removal from the lake beds, solid waste management, and sewerage management.
The review of STPs around Nalahe Ameer Khan, and the installation of barricades around the lake to prevent plying of material carrying heavy vehicles were also discussed.
It was also discussed in the meeting that there is a need for CCTVs to be installed around the areas of these lakes so that it is ensured that no carrying of construction material will take place during night hours.
The drainage wing of SMC has been given the job of preparing the comprehensive plans for the rejuvenation and development of these lakes. Along with the dredging and other interventions, it was also directed that the feasibility of developing walkways around these water bodies be worked out.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer Srinagar Smart city, SE Drainage, Executive Engineer Drainage Circle, Chief Enforcement Officer & others
The Commissioner, SMC also stressed to officers that no earth filling should be allowed in these areas.
