SMC asks FCI, CAPD food outlets for registration

SRINAGAR, Feb 15: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation today ordered all the food storage and distribution outlets of Food Corporation of India (FCI) and Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department in the city to ensure monitoring of food stuffs’ quality.
SMC Health Officer Shafaqat Khan in a statement said a communication vide No. SMC/PS/HO 1329-32 dated 15/2/2014 addressed to Regional Director FCI and Director CAPD has been sent regarding registration of all food storage and distribution outlets of FCI and CAPD in the City, like rice, sugar, flour etc., which are distributed for public consumption.
Khan said regular inspections will be made by the Food Safety Officers of the SMC to the outlets to ensure hygiene and sanitation.
“Those outlets which are found in insanitary conditions will not be allowed to operate, and also regular food sampling will be conducted of all the food items distributed for public consumption at these stores,” he said.
