Smart City project fails before take off in Jammu: Namrta

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Apr 11: Apni Party provincial president, Women Wing, Namrta Sharma today criticized Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for its inability to provide basic amenities in urban areas of Jammu district. The party organized a public meeting at Model Town of Diagana in which large numbers of people especially women participated. The locals alleged that the road in Model Town is in shabby condition and the condition of lanes and drains is also worst. The poor cleanliness has exposed the JMC's failure to maintain city, the locals alleged. On hearing their grievances, Namrta Sharma said that it was unfortunate that the JMC has not been able to provide basic amenities to the people of Diagana Model Town.

On hearing their grievances, Namrta Sharma said that it was unfortunate that the JMC has not been able to provide basic amenities to the people of Diagana Model Town. "The dreams of becoming a Smart City have failed before take off for the people of Jammu. Installing the sign board will not make Jammu smart, but it requires coordinated efforts for development, improvement of standard of life of the people and to provide basic amenities to all the people of Jammu district," said Namrta. Namrta said that the unscheduled power cuts have become a routine in most of the areas of Jammu even as people pay bills. "The condition of drinking water supply has also not improved. The tap water is improper in many areas compelling the locals to buy drinking water. It shows the poor management and supply plans of Jal Shakti Department which utilizes crores funds on the name of streamlining the water supply system," Namrta added. Namrta warned the departments involved in emergency services to improve their services and provide 24X7 electricity and drinking water supply. The meeting was organized by Charanjeet Kour. Namrta was accompanied by Apni Party youth general secretary, J&K, Abhay Bakaya, Suhail Khajuria, Sarabjeet Singh and others.
