Small units facing closure due to Govt apathy: AoI

JAMMU, Dec 3: Association of Industries (AoI), Gangyal has expressed surprise over the prolonged silence of the authorities concerned to initiate immediate corrective and remedial measures to address the woes and grievances of the local micro/small entrepreneurs.
In a largely attended meeting of AOI, held under the leadership of Rattan Dogra ( president), most of the entrepreneurs present were apprehensive that consistent denial of their rightful due shall only force closure of almost the entire segment of the local micro/small sector which is largest sector providing employment to over three lakhs local population, second largest after the J&K Government.
While speaking in the meeting Dogra said, ” Association firmly believes unless and until the core issues as repeatedly projected by the Association related to rapid industrialization are suitably resolved in time bound manner, the things will not improve. Moreover, UT of J&K may not be able to seek and attract fresh investment in Industrial sector as envisaged. Withdrawal of investment proposals and plans by big houses including Blue Star, Patanjli, Dabur etc. and others are only few of the examples in this regard,” Dogra maintained.
He said lack of Special Fiscal Package, both for existing and new units is one of the major constraints in our land locked militancy infested state situated far away from main trade centres. He said Association was hopeful that both the UT and Central Govts would exhibit same urgency and involvement as has been shown in the case of the Horticulture sector.
Dogra said casual approach as being presently adopted confirms that local Micro/Small sector which only provides employment to local populace, is least priority despite UT status to J&K which should be corrected in the first phase. Any set of Special Fiscal Incentives if at all under consideration of UT/Central Govt’s to attract fresh investment should be extended both for existing and new units irrespective of their age, location and size without any hindrance of Negative lists.
Association urged upon the Lt. Governor and his Advisors to intervene in to the matter on priority to take appropriate measures to mitigate the sufferings of local small sector.
