Slathia tours border areas to take stock of public grievances

SAMBA, Aug 5: Minister for Industries and Commerce Surjit Singh Slathia today inaugurated the newly constructed Health Sub-Centre building at Bassi Kalan completed at a cost of Rs 34 lakh.
The Minister, who conducted an extensive tour of the border areas of his home constituency, also launched work on Rs 1 crore Irrigation Tubewell at village Sarwa.
Addressing the public after inaugurating the sub-centre, the minister said that the Centre will cater to the healthcare needs of Bassi Kalan village and adjoining areas.
The Minister asked the people to maintain cleanliness around the centre and directed the Chief Medical Officer to lay interlock tiles in the open premises of the Centre, besides laying flower beds  and other  beautification work.
Responding to the local demands, Mr. Slathia directed the concerned authorities to start restoration work of traditional pond in Bassi Kalan and complete the same in a time bound manner.
He said “it is the resolve of the present Coalition Government headed by Omar Abdullah to provided better facilities to the rural people like road connectivity, potable drinking water, better irrigation, health facilities and education.” He directed the Block Development Officer to immediately start up-gradation of lanes and drain works in the village.
Later, the Minister distributed 2nd installment of Rs. 30,000 to nine beneficiaries under IHSDP scheme for construction of their home at Vijaypur. He also distributed three ReT appointment orders to the selected candidates.
Addressing the gathering, the minister disclosed that Rs. 1.75 crore have been released to upgrade power infrastructure in Vijaypur. He appealed to the people to use power judiciously and also pay their power dues regularly.
Stressing for maintaining cleanliness in the Vijaypur town, the Minister directed Municipal Committee Viajypur to launch sanitation drive in the town.
At Sarwa, Mr. Slathia launched the construction work on irrigation tubewell to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1 crore. This will help in providing upgraded irrigation facility to the farmers of the area. He also inaugurated women sanitary complex at Sarwa completed at a cost of Rs. 2 lakh under Total Sanitation Campaign.
Regarding the demands projected by the locals, which include up-gradation of Middle School Sarwa, completion of Sarwa-Daulat Chak road, the Minister assured that the genuine demands would be addressed at the earliest.
