VIJAYPUR, Aug 22: National Conference (NC) senior vice president and former Minister, Surjeet Singh Slathia today called for channelizing youth energies towards proper direction.
He was speaking while awarding the winner and runners up trophies of Mohit Sharma Memorial Cricket Tournament during a function held here today.
Congratulating the winners, Slathia described the well organized cricket tourney as a major event in the area, hoping this will inspire youngsters to make their mark in the game. He lauded the high degree of discipline and camaraderie shown by the players, as also the sports lovers during the tournament and said this could prove a motivating factor for talented youth to showcase their talent.
He exhorted young players to concentrate on the game and specialize in disciplines like batting and bowling, which will put them in good stead to face the competitive world confidently. Slathia said sports present a unique opportunity to young boys and girls to excel and bring laurels, not only for themselves, but also for the State.
He referred to distinction achieved by Indian athletes in Rio during the Olympic games and envisioned a big future for the players belonging to Jammu and Kashmir in various National and International events.
The tournament was won by Phala Eleven, who defeated Raya Eleven by 105 runs in the final match, played at Raya in Vijaypur Assembly Constituency. In all 32 teams participated in the tournament, which was witnessed by thousands from the adjoining areas.
