JAMMU, June 7: SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) has shown its human facet by extending a helping hand to the family of M Sc student of the varsity who was going through tough time.
On the initiative of the Association, teachers, non-teaching staff and students of the university collected a cash amount of Rs 4,00,000 (Four lakh) to save the precious life of the student from Leh, who was critically injured in a road accident.
According to SKUAST-TAJ president, Dr Vikas Sharma, the said student, namely Padma Angmo of Hemis Chomoling, Kharu, Leh, Ladakh, is pursuing MSc in the Division of Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry. She was hit by a speedy truck and had been shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Hospital Jammu where doctors suggested her immediate shifting to AIIMS, New Delhi by air ambulance for further treatment that required an expenditure of Rs 4.00 lakh.
Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J, Dr P K Sharma in no time sanctioned a temporary advance of Rs 400,000 for immediate shifting of the girl to AIIMS after the president-TAJ, Vikas Sharma assured the VC that money would be refunded back.
In this regard, teaching association handed over a cheque amounting Rs 400,000 to Dr S K Sen, Comptroller, SKUAST Jammu.
According to Dr Vivak M Arya, general secretary of the Association, condition of the girl is now stable and has been improving day by day in AIIMS, New Delhi.
Director Research Dr J P Sharma, who is also holding the charge of VC SKUAST-J, lauded the SKUAST-TAJ for its humanitarian endeavour. Dean, Dr D P Abrol, Deputy Comptroller Sohan Lal Sharma, Dr Devinder Sharma, Dr Rajiv Bharat, Dr Anil Bhat, Warden Girls Hostel Dr Sushmita Dadichi and student representative Vishaw Vikas were also present on the occasion.
