JAMMU, Feb 25: A delegation of Students Council of SKUAST-Jammu and SKUAST Kashmir, called on Advisor to the Governor K Skandan and demanded that posts of Agriculture Extension Officer and Agriculture Extension Assistant be referred to JKPSC and JKSSB respectively.
They also submitted a memorandum to the Advisor, informing him that for more than a decade, not even a single post of Agriculture Extension Officer has been referred by Agriculture Production Department under direct recruitment quota whereas these posts are only being filled on promotion basis, although the posts under direct recruitment quota are lying vacant in the department in hundreds.
“Previously these posts were filled on 50:50 basis i.e. 50 percent by direct recruitment and 50 percent by promotional quota, but the same were changed to 20:80 basis i.e. 20 percent by direct recruitment and 80 percent by promotional quota in response to communication number AS/GAD/Mtg/2018/1050-53 dated 10/12/2018 from GAD, which is injustice and violates fundamental right of equal opportunity,” they explained and added that the APD recently furnished the details of the positions of Agriculture Extension Assistants, which are lying vacant in hundreds but the same are not being referred to JKSSB.
Further, they said, the Government of J&K came up with a new SRO-442 in Agriculture Production Department (APD) on 23rd of October 2017, according to which the posts of Junior Agriculture Extension Officer (JAEO will be filled 100 percent on promotional basis contrary to the earlier SRO-02, dated 2nd January 2004 wherein these posts were filled on 60:40 basis.
Stating that the Agriculture Technocrats were suffering from psychological trauma due to this amendment in the SRO, the delegation appealed the Advisor to look into the matter and amend the draconian SRO-442 thus benefitting both the unemployed Agricultural youth and the lower employees of JKAPD.
The delegation was led by Divyansh Verma, president of the Students Council.
