JAMMU, Sept 18: Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, Prof J P Sharma reviewed the progress of Comprehensive Agriculture Policy for J&K.
The Chairmen and members of different Technical Working Groups presented the drafts of framing Comprehensive Agriculture Policy in their respective projects/ schemes.
Prof Sharma reviewed 14 projects and schemes for UT of Jammu and Kashmir, which included: Promotion of niche crops (saffron, kalazeera, apricot, walnut, honey, rajmash mountain garlic etc, Promoting sustainable agriculture/organic agriculture; Development of rainfed areas; Promotion of commercial floriculture; Promotion of medicinal/aromatic plants on commercial basis; Promotion of apiculture; Development of mushrooms; Promotion of oil seeds; Promotion of millets; Formation of sustainable FPOs; Promotion of secondary Agriculture; Development of clusters of specific products; Promotion of food processing & value addition and Promotion of sericulture sector.
The meeting was organized at SKUAST-Jammu, Chatha involving members and responsible authorities of different Technical Working Groups from Jammu and Kashmir region in hybrid mode and threadbare discussions were held.
The drafts of the projects and schemes were presented by Dr Rouf Malik, Dr Parmit Singh, Dr Dileep Kachroo, Dr Arvind Parkash Singh, Dr Imtiyaz Nazki, Dr Akhlaq Wani, Subhash Sharma, Dr Sajad Wani, Vikas Sharma and Shafat Sultan.
During the review meeting, Prof Sharma suggested practical modifications required in each project. He advised the responsible authorities to frame holistic proposals for the Comprehensive Agriculture Policy and submit the same to the reviewing authorities well in time for final submission of the document to the apex committee and the Government.
Earlier, Dr Pardeep Wali, Director Research of SKUAST Jammu introduced the participants about the projects/ schemes to be reviewed. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Dr S K Gupta, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu.
