JAMMU, Dec 14: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) showed its strong presence in the Zonal Workshop of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Zone-1, held at Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur (HP) from 12-14 December.
The workshop was organized by the ICAR, Agricultural Technology Application and Research Institute (ATARI) under the leadership of Dr Rajbir Singh, Director ATARI. It was attended by renowned agricultural scientists of the country.
SKUAST-J Vice Chancellor, Dr P K Sharma was the guest of honour and he spoke on the impact of climate change on agriculture and elaborated the eco-friendly techniques for the environment sustainability. He emphasized on the proper marketing facilities for the farmers so that they can smoothly sale their farm produce.
Associate Director Extension and incharge of all Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of SKUAST-J, Dr R K Arora highlighted achievements of the Directorate of Extension of SKUAST-J. He said that KVKs of SKUAST-J are transforming the rural areas of Jammu region by increasing the crops yields of the farmers by which their economic status is improving day- by- day. He explained the collaborative programmes conducted by SKUAST-J with KVKs. He also chaired various technical sessions and gave constructive suggestions to the scientists from other States of the North Zone.
Dr Arora was felicitated with a shawl and cap by the ATARI. Four success stories on organic farming, poultry farming, plant protection varieties and farmers right act, 2001 and strategic shift by KVK, Kathua towards Pusa Basmati-1121 enhanced farm income of small farmers KVK, Reasi and KVK, Kathua were released by the dignitaries in the workshop.
Later on, annual reports were presented by Dr A Vaid, Sr Scientist-cum-Head from KVK, Kathua, Dr Vikas Tandon, Sr Scientist-cum-Head from KVK, Jammu, Dr Banarsi Lal, Incharge, KVK, Reasi, Dr Ajay Gupta, Incharge, KVK, Poonch, Dr Arvind Isher,incharge, KVK,Rajouri and Dr Sanjay Khajuria, scientist, KVK, Doda. They gave a detail view of the achievements of their respective KVKs working in different districts of Jammu province.
