JAMMU, Feb 18: Under SC-SP Programme of NICRA-AICRPAM Project to sensitize the farmers for managing agricultural operation under the changing climate scenario, Agrometeorology Section of SKUAST-Jammu organized a camp at village Laswara in block Bishnah.
The Director, Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi, Dr Naveen Kumar Shah, was the chief guest of this programme. He encouraged the farmers to work in a collective approach to take the maximum output from field by reducing the input used in field. He also distributed seeds of pulses and vegetables to the participating farmers.
Dr Mahender Singh, PI NICRA AICRPAM, gave detailed information on importance of timely agricultural operations based on the weather forecast in day to day activities.
Dr Jag Paul Sharma, Associate Director Research, stressed upon the farmers to adopt the new climate resilient technologies developed by SKUAST-J, Chatha, Jammu. He motivated them to take benefits from the forecast services under NICRA Project which will ultimately enhance the income of poor and marginal farmers of the area.
Dr A P Singh, In charge, ACRA, Rakh Dhiansar, explained sowing of rain fed crops in order to maximize their crop production by applying scientific and technological intervention in field. He further stressed farmers to use and attain quality seeds of various crops from the reliable sources for attaining maximum production.
Dr Narinder Panotra, Junior Scientist, Organic Farming, explained the importance of organic farming system in addition to their traditional farming to ultimately save the mother planet from the adverse impact of climate change. Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Asstt Professor, Vegetable Science, explained farmers about scientific cultivation of summer vegetable crops in the area.
Dr Rohit Sharma, Technical Officer, AMFU, Rajouri, informed that more than 10000 farmers have been linked with weather based SMS service through the Meghdoot mobile application in Jammu region and adopt the weather based agro advisories from timely field management.
Dr Charu Sharma presented the vote of thanks and motivated the farmers to take maximum advantage from this awareness programme as well as the services provided by SKUAST – Jammu.
