UDHAMPUR, Nov 22: SKUAST Jammu organized technology awareness-cum-demonstration programmes on “Nutritional interventions for the enhancement of production in dairy animals”, here today.
Dairy farmers from Beli, Salmadi, Debriah, Takoli and Lansi villages participated in the programme, which was sponsored by J&K State Council for Science and Technology. A team of scientists from Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & A.H. interacted with the farmers.
Dr. Rajiv Singh, Professor and Head, Division of Veterinary Medicine, highlighted the role of minerals in livestock health and production in J&K State. He informed that approximately 35-40 per cent of cattle and buffaloes are deficient in calcium and phosphorous. A technology like UMMB, prepared from locally available agro-industrial by-products, improves nutritional status of animals, he added.
Farmers were also provided practical demonstration on preparation of UMMB. Kits comprising of UMMB and area specific mineral mixture were distributed among the farmers.
Dr M S Bhadwal and Dr Mandeep Azad also educated farmers about diseases of animals and recent technology for their management.
