SKUAST-J Farming Research System (AICRP-IFS) gets best centre award

JAMMU, Dec 25: At the fourth day of 32nd biennial workshop on Integrated Farming System in its concluding function, which was organized jointly by ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming System (IFFSR), Modipuram, Meerut and SKUAST-Jammu, the award ceremony was held.
Professor P K Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, who was chief guest on the occasion, awarded Dr Dileep Kachroo and his team for the best performance of AICRP-IFS among seventy five main centres of the country.
This award was bestowed to the SKUAST-Jammu for developing a profitable integrated farming system model at Main Campus, Chatha for realizing the net profit upto Rs 3.04 lac per hectare per annum. The model includes crop, horticulture, animal, apiary, fish-cum-poultry, mushroom and bio-gas component besides, boundary plantation. The unique features of the model are i.e having low cost construction design and having capacity for recycling of farm waste, which not only supplement the nutrients but also ensures the eco-friendly and sustainable environment within the system.
ICAR-IFSR Modipuram besides the main centre award was awarded to OFR Centre and Tribal Sub Plan Centre. The best centre award for sub-centre was given to SWMRI, Thanjore and the best award On Farm Research Centre was given to SDAU Centre on seed spices. Voluntary best centre award was given to ICAR-RC-NEH, Umaim, Meghalaya and the best Tribal Sub Plan Centre was given to ICAR-CRRI, Portblair.
Those who were present on the occasion, included Dr S Baskhar, ADG, Dr A S Panwar, Director, IFFSR, Dr Ravi Shanker, Co-ordinator, IFFSR, Dr J P Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST-J and other dignitaries from across the country attending the integrated farming system meet.
In the valedictory function, the future plan programme of IFS was finalized.
At the last, the participants visited IFS model at Chatha. Dr Ravi Shanker, national coordinator of IFS, extended votes of thanks to SKUAST-J for organising the meeting.
