JAMMU, Mar 14: Reaching new dimensions in promotion of agricultural innovations on farmers’ fields, SKUAST-Jammu organized demonstrations of agri-drones near Indo-Pak border at Basmati Rice Research Centre Chakroi, R S Pura.
Dr S K Gupta, Director Research and Registrar, inaugurated the programme in the presence of Dr Amrish Vaid, Director Extension.
While interacting with farmers, Dr Gupta highlighted the importance of adopting latest advancement in agri-drone technology in Jammu region. He informed that University is committed to empower farmers with innovations to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability.
Dr Gupta reiterated that agri-drones offer tremendous potential to revolutionize traditional farming methods by providing farmers with real-time insights and actionable data to optimize crop management practices. He detailed about the scheme of Custom Hiring Centres for exploring the full potential of new machinery and equipment in agriculture. Dr. Gupta also assured cooperation in developing local human resource for acquiring authorized agri-drone licenses by rural youth.
Dr Amrish Vaid informed that the demonstration featured the latest advancements in drone technology tailored specifically for agricultural applications. He further elaborated that integrating drone technology into agricultural practices will enhance productivity, optimize resource utilization, and mitigate environmental impacts. He acknowledged the support of Border Security Force to allow demonstrations of agri-drones in villages close to International Border with Pakistan in line with commitment of Government to strengthen farmers residing at the last mile of J&K.
On the occasion, farmers had the opportunity to interact with researchers and industry experts to discuss their specific challenges and explore potential solutions leveraging drone technology.
The demonstrations were conducted by a team of Principal Scientists Dr Vishal Raina, Dr Sanjay Khajuria, Dr D K Chouhan and Dr Pawan Kumar Sharma.
Through interactive sessions and live demonstrations, farmers gained insights into the practical applications of agri-drones and learned how to leverage this technology to improve farm management and decision-making.
