Srinagar, May 27: Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar is withholding provisional degrees of scores of MD and MS students.
Provisional degrees of these students have been withheld, as per students, to make them to attend the PGRP-2019 while they have been relieved from SKIMS last month after the completion of their degrees.
“They are not giving us the provisional degrees and are forcing us to attend the PGRP at any cost even after the fact that we have been relieved on April 30th. This means that we no longer are the part of the institution,” the students said.
All such students who are done with their degrees are scheduled to either move out for senior residencies or are set to join their postings in the districts. The medicos said that by the time they will be done with the presentation enough damage would be done.
“Most of the seats for the senior residency will be filled by then, they are hell-bent to destroy our careers, we won’t be able to go for higher studies like this,” they said.
While SKIMS is conducting the PGRP in June, GMC is already done with it as they conducted the same in the month of March, not making the students to suffer unlike SKIMS.
“We have even registered for it; however, we are demanding that provisional degrees should be issued in our favor. We request the Governor and his Advisor to intervene into the matter,” they said.
Head of the Department, Hospital Administration, SKIMS Dr Ghulam Hassan Yatoo who is also the Chairman PGRP-2019 told Excelsior that the PGRP is the compulsory aspect of their degrees and that the students have to attend it.
“You know, this is something which is important and compulsory to attend for every student,” he said, while adding that this time over, there was some delay in conducting the presentation. He, however, refused to comment over the allegation leveled by the students regarding the provisional degrees. “I cannot comment on that, I can tell you about the presentation only,” he said.
The PGRP-2019 was earlier set to be held from June 13-15, but was later modified and is now scheduled to be held from June 12-14. Meanwhile, this time over, the PGRP will organized by the Department of Hospital Administration, SKIMS.
