Srinagar, Aug 24: On the eve of Science Day, the Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) and the University of Kashmir today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint research collaboration.
The Science Day was organized in collaboration with the Indian Thyroid Society & M.P.PCOS Society today organized Science Day-2021 on Thyroid disorders under the theme ‘Thyroid Dysfunction: A non-communicable epidemic’.
The program was also supported by the Department of Science and Technology, J&K.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Director SKIMS, Dr A.G Ahangar, Vice-Chancellor Kashmir University Prof. Talat, Dr O.J Shah, Dean Medical Faculty, Prof. Farooq Masoodi Dean Research and Academic Affairs and Dr Ashraf Ganai, Prof. Department of Endocrinology and Sub Dean Research, SKIMS.
Prof. Talat, Vice-Chancellor Kashmir University who was the chief guest on the occasion in his address emphasized more joint/interactive sessions for a deeper understanding of issues of society to benefit the community at a large scale.
He said MOU between SKIMS and K.U will help in optimum utilization of resources and expertise. He further said exchange of academic material/human resource and infrastructure is important for better utilization as in most of the academic institutes the high-end equipment remain underutilized and appealed students and scholars to take advantage of this collaboration.
Director SKIMS &EOSG, Dr A.G Ahangar welcomed the dignitaries and congratulated the organizers for conducting this event. He said Science Day has a great significance which is celebrated across the country to recall the contributions of the renowned scientist “C.V Raman”. SKIMS has always been at the forefront and contributed significantly at various levels.
Commenting on the MoU between SKIMS and K.U, he said that the collaboration will be beneficial for both institutions. He emphasized the role of young scientists for the future of mankind on this planet using their effort and talent for making life on this planet a “miracle safeguarded by collective wisdom”.
Prof. Omar Javid Shah, Dean Medical Faculty expressed his gratitude to Kashmir University for support and emphasized the involvement of youngsters is critical in various initiatives.
Nasir Ahmad Shah, Additional Director Department of Science and Technology while speaking on the occasion highlighted the role of the Department of Science and Technology, J&K in research and informed that the department is ready to facilitate all those interested in research activities.
Prof. M Ashraf Ganaie, Sub Dean Research, SKIMS, and organizing Chairman of the event thanked all the invitees for attending the event.
He underscored the importance of science day to create awareness about various thyroid disorders which is emerging as a non-communicable epidemic.
During the event various research/Scientific papers on Key topics were presented by eminent scientists. Dr Munir Ahmed Wani, Organising Secretary presented a vote of thanks and the event was attended by HOD’s, Faculty, Heads of Supportive services, Scholars etc.
