SKIMS gets highly equipped Infectious Diseases Block

SRINAGAR, May 25: Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) today crossed another milestone to further strengthen advanced patient care services with the inauguration of Infectious Diseases Block (IDB).
It is the first center of its kind in North India equipped with superlative quality facilities. The services that will be provided include 40 bedded isolation ward, l5 bedded high dependency isolation ward and Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The IDB was inaugurated by the Advisor to L.G of Jammu & Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan.
The center, as per the hand out received by SKIMS, will also have four bedded RO and Dialysis Unit, Independent Portable X-ray, USG Machine and ECG, Lab facilities for Haemogram Coagulation studies Arterial Blood Gas and Electrolyte Analysis, Biochemistry etc.
The newly established Infectious Disease Block (IDB) will be headed by Dr. Ajaz Nabi Koul, Consultant Infectious Disease and in charge COVlD-19 SKlMS who is a trained specialist in the management of infectious diseases and is playing a crucial role in the the campaign against COVlD pandemic.
Director SKlMS & EOSG Dr. A.G Ahangar appreciated the contribution of everyone in building up patient care services leading from the front in the establishment of this IDB that was dedicated to patient care especially the engineering department and other supportive management services.
The department will continue to excel in research, clinical care and education with a basic objective to serve poor patients, he added.
Meanwhile, with regard to the spike in the number of doctors testing positive, Dr. A. G. Ahangar expressed satisfaction about the safety measures taken at all levels to ensure the protection of frontline health workers.
He said the administration is alert and is taking all possible steps for the safety of health care workers. At SKlMS sufficient quality supply of PPE’s is available, donning and doffing areas have been well-demarcated and every guideline/ protocol of WHO and ICMR is being implemented at every level to minimize contamination.
