SKIMS forms committee for Ebola preparedness

Srinagar, May 26: The Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, has constituted a committee to oversee preparedness, surveillance, quarantine, containment and public awareness measures related to Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in view of the ongoing outbreak reported by the World Health Organization.
According to an official order issued by Director SKIMS, Prof. (Dr.) Mohd Ashraf Ganie, the committee has been formed in line with advisories issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The committee will be headed by Prof. Ganie and includes senior faculty members from the departments of Microbiology, General Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Hospital Administration and Critical Care Medicine. Prof. (Dr.) G.H. Yatoo, Head of Hospital Administration, has been designated as the nodal officer.
The order states that the nodal officer will serve as the central coordinating officer for all Ebola-related preparedness and response activities at SKIMS and will maintain liaison with the designated nodal officer of the Health Services Department.
The committee has been tasked with ensuring timely implementation of Government instructions, advisories and infection-prevention protocols.
It may also seek assistance from other departments and divisions of the institute to strengthen preparedness and response mechanisms.
