Srinagar, May 2: SKIMS Medical College & Hospital, Bemina today performed its first fetoreduction procedure.
As per doctors, the procedure is a delicate intervention used to improve the chances of a safe pregnancy in high-risk cases involving multiple babies.
Doctors from the Departments of Radiodiagnosis and Gynaecology worked together to reduce a quadruplet pregnancy (four fetuses) to twins.
The procedure was carried out to lower the risk to the mother’s health and increase the chances of survival and healthy development for the remaining two babies, SKIMS MC&H said in a statement.
The doctors from the Department of Radiodiagnosis, explained that fetoreduction is a specialized procedure performed when a woman is carrying more than two fetuses, such as triplets or quadruplets.
“The goal is to improve the outcome by reducing the number of fetuses, thereby decreasing health risks to the mother and helping the remaining babies grow better,” they said.
The Principal of SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, congratulated the medical teams on the success.
“This milestone highlights our hospital’s growing capabilities and dedication to providing advanced, patient-centered care,” he said.
