Situation in Kashmir far from normal: Shameema Firdous

SRINAGAR, Sept 21: Jammu Kashmir National Conference, Women’s Wing president, Shameema Firdous today presided over a meeting of functionaries at party headquarters here. It was the first meeting presided by Shameema Firdous after her release from the year long house detention. The Women Wing activists including district functionaries from across Kashmir division attended the meeting.
While addressing the functionaries, Shameema Firdous condemned the killing of innocent woman in Batamaloo encounter, and demanded strong punishment to the offenders. “A case should immediately be filed as per the law of the land and perpetrators of the injustice dealt with as per law to set an exemplary for the future,” she said while extolling the significant role played by the party’s Women’s Wing workers for upholding and rallying around the party flag during the most trying times post unconstitutional and unilateral abrogation of J&K’s special Constitutional position.
“The situation in Kashmir continues to deteriorate with each passing day. The recent custodial killings and fake encounters won’t help the situation improve. There is an atmosphere of fear and gloom in Kashmir, and the Government on its part isn’t doing anything to assuage the situation by ensuring dignity of life and safety and security of its people. Such incidents should not be allowed to pass on without taking the offenders to task,” she said while expressing solidarity with the victim’s family,. “There cannot be total redemption of situation unless all the youth lodged in jails inside and outside J&K are released fore with, “she added.
While ruing the absence of safe spaces for the youth to pursue their vocations, she lamented the Government on disengaging contractual employees from jobs. “Contrary to providing jobs to local youth, this Government is snatching jobs from the skilled. The recent disengagement of SHGs by the Government is a case in point. The local youth are seeing no light at the end of the tunnel”. People associated with tourism, handicrafts, MSMEs are reeling under debts. The Government on its part has failed to provide succor to the affected people,” she added.
Among others, the Party’s women’s wing president Kashmir, Sabiya Qadri also addressed the functionaries. She urged the functionaries to help the people during the prevailing COVID-19 induced crisis.
Shameema Firdous rued the widespread unaccountability, administrative inertia and development deficit in Kashmir in particular the Summer Capital of J&K.
