Sitting Congress Councilor passes away

LEH, May 7: Sitting Congress councilor of Tingmosgang constituency died at SNM Hospital Leh on Friday evening. He was 63. Sonam Dorjay who had also served as Executive Councilor for Agriculture during Congress Council was not well.
After serving in Education Department as a Headmaster for a period 20 years he took voluntarily retirement to pursue LL.B Degree from Jammu University and practiced law as an advocate in Leh and both J& K High Court for 17 years.
He joined Indian National Congress in the year 2006 to contest by-election from Lower Leh constituency of LAHDC and won the election. Later he won the elections in 2010 and 2020 also.
Hill Council Chairman Tashi Gailson, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Ladakh Buddhist Association, Former MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora, Nubra ex-MLA Deldan Namgail, Former CEC Rigzin Spalbar expressed sadness on the demise of sitting councilor Sonam Dorjay. Council secretariat observed full day closure as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
