SINGAPORE : The newly appointed Executive Director of Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) Malminderjit Singh today said that he looks forward to positioning his organisation as a relevant and useful platform for companies to make in-roads into India.
Singh will serve as the Executive Director of SICCI from March 1.
The former journalist, who has significant experience in covering a wide range of international trades and businesses including the Indian corporations, will concurrently serve as director of the chamber’ two subsidiaries SME Centre@SICCI Pte Ltd and SICCI Trade Match Pte Ltd.
Welcoming his appointment, Singh said he looks forward to positioning SICCI as a relevant and useful platform for Singapore companies to make in-roads into India, and vice-versa.
“Moreover, the renewal of political leadership in India brings along with it rejuvenated interest in business and investment opportunities there,” Singh said in a statement.
Industry observers said Singh’s appointment comes at a time when Singapore-India bilateral relations are progressing at a faster pace than ever with investments and corporations participation in the massive Indian economic development.
“We are pleased to have Malminderjit join SICCI. His familiarity with the organisation, prepares him well for this position,” said SICCI chairman R Theyvendran.
With the appointment of Singh, SICCI has also changed the head of the chamber position to Executive Director from Chief Executive Officer previously to better suit the needs and functions of the business grouping.
Singh’s appointment at SICCI is both relevant and timely, given that a new board was appointed last year to rejuvenate the organisation, both internally and externally, said SICCI. (AGENCIES)
