Sindhu Darshan festival begins with religious fervour, gaiety

LEH, June 24: The symbolic festival of Indus River known as Sindhu Darshan festival commenced with religious fervour and gaiety.
Around 1520 pilgrims from different parts of the country were present to celebrate the occasion.
Many of them took holy dip amid reciting prayers while many of them seen dancing at the site to rejoice the auspicious occasion. Northern Culture Centre Patiala artists exhibiting the richness of Indian cultural enthralled the spectators.
Thuksey Rinpochey formally inaugurated the festival by unfurling the National Flag followed by offering prayers at the Holi Indus Ghat.
The festival is being organized by Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti and Ladakh Phandey Tsogspa Leh.
Minister for State Social Justice and Empowerment GoI, Vijay Sampla, MoS Finance GoI Arjun Meghwal, J&K Industries and Commerce Minister Chander Prakash Ganga, Ladakh Affair and Cooperative Minister Chering Dorjey Lakrook, LAHDC Chief Executive Councilor Dr Sonam Dawa, Executive Councilors, Ladakh MP Thupstan Chhewang, Vikram Randhawa MLC J&K, Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti President Murlidhar Makhija, Swami Yatindranand Giri, Sindhu Darshan Utsav Patron Indresh Kumar and spiritual leaders and many others were present on the occasion.
Thuksey Rinpochey spoke about the importance of Holy River Indus. Stressing the need of preserving the river he appealed to the organizer to initiate a cleaning drive on the Indus in future so that it will remain preserved for years to come.
Speaking on the occasion Sindhu Darshan Utsav Patron Indresh Kumar assured his support to the Ladakhi demands of Kailash Mansarvor Yatra road opening and inclusion of Bhoti language in the eight scheduled on Indian Constitution. He also appealed to the devotees coming from different parts of nation to request their respective MP to support the Ladakhi demand in the Parliament. Appealing the people to stop eating beef meat, he said that cow is regarded as sacred animal and everyone in the world has consumed cow’s milk in some way so cow must be respected.
MP Thupstan Chhewang appealed to the people of the country to support the patriotic Ladakhi demands of Bhoti language and Kailash Mansarvor road opening.
MoS Finance Arjun Meghwal and Minister for State Social Justice and Empowerment GoI, Vijay Sampla also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the significance of Indus Holy River.
On the occasion a team of “Guv Rakshak” led by Fayez Khan who will travel across the countries for 300 days with Indus River Water was formally flagged off by the dignitaries.
