Sikh Societies for settlement of refugees’ problems

JAMMU, June 9: J&K Sikh Societies Amalgamate in its meeting here, today held under the chairmanship of Gurdeep Singh Sasan, its chief patron urged the State and Central Governments to redress all the issues of refugees.
The meeting also passed a resolution in this regard which urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to recommend a package of Rs 25 lakh for each PoJK refugee family to the Central Government for their one time settlement.
It also demanded constitution of J&K Welfare and Development Board for PoJK refugees, enactment of Anand Karaj Act as has been enacted by Union Government, formation of Minority Commission in J&K, formation of Minority Financial Corporation, immediate regularization of PoJK refugees bastis, camps and release special funds for the modernization of these bastis and camps.
It also demanded that sufficient representation be given to Sikhs in PSC, SSRB, judiciary and other statutory bodies, reservation of seats for PoJK refugees in Legislative Assembly and Council, reservation for PoJK refugees in Government as well as semi Government institutes and launching of special recruitment drive for them.
Those who spoke in the meeting included Rattan Singh (retd Col), Capt (retd) P P Singh, Prof Surjeet Kour, Surinder Singh, Nain Singh, Baldev Singh, Er Jagpal Singh, Prof Haridner Singh etc.
