JAMMU, July 27: Shiromani Akali Dal National (SADN), Punjab Sahit Sabha (PSS) and other Sikh organisations have condemned the administration of State Education Department for not implementing the Cabinet order for imparting regional languages ie. Punjabi, Dogri and Ladakhi in the Government as well as private schools.
Addressing a meeting of various Sikh organisations, Prof Amrik Singh Sathi, vice-president, SADN and Dayal Singh Wazir, expressed grave concern over non-implementation of the Cabinet order dated March 20, 2001 by the Education Department and condemned the Education Minister for his gross negligence in implementing the said order.
Though the order has already been implemented in Kashmir Province, as Punjabi is being taught in Government and private schools and exams are also being conducted by the Education Board, but in Jammu Province, where 30% people speak Punjabi, the order has not been implemented till now. This has exposed the tall claims made by the Coalition Government for their good governance where a Cabinet order has not been implemented for such a long time of more than 14 years, they added.
They urged the Education Minister and his administration to wake up and rectify their gross negligence before it is too late and appealed the Sikh organisations and Dogri Sabha for struggle to take the matter to the logical conclusion.
President, PSS, Shamsher Singh Chowhalvi, urged upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene to get the order implemented in letter and spirit.
