Sikh bodies resent dismantling of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s statue

JAMMU, Aug 18: Various Sikh bodies of J&K have expressed strong resentment against the dismantling of statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Lahore by some anti-social and communal elements.
An emergency meeting of various Sikh organizations J&K held under the chairmanship of S. Sudarshan Singh Wazir, Chairman Sikh United Front J&K, was held here today to discuss the burning issues in general and the current situation in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Wazir said the public of Pakistan as good citizens stand against such incidents and guide the public of Pakistan regarding the pluralistic type of kingdom of Maharaja Ranjit Singh who treated all religions equal and served the subject’s on the basis of teachings of Guru Nanak . There is a great resentment among the secular minded people across the world over Lahore development.
The Sikh organizations strongly condemned the incident of dismantling of statue of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Pakistan by mischievous persons and appealed the government of India to intervene in to the matter and ask the government of Pakistan to beware of such practices otherwise the consequences will not be good in relationship as a neighbouring country. They also appealed the Pakistan Government to install the new statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh at the same place.
The Sikh bodies also appealed the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan to take action against the culprits.
They further appealed the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Natural Gas to make all efforts to save the lives of Hindus and Sikhs in Afghanistan who are feeling insecure due to current situation. They said Sikhs living in Afghanistan have lots of moveable and immovable properties and Gurdwaras in large number which needs a protection.
