SIA unearths, seizes assets worth Rs 122 cr of JeI including Geelani’s house

SRINAGAR, Dec 24: The State Investigating Agency (SIA) has unearthed assets of Jamat-e-Islami worth Rs 122 crores in Kashmir and seized them including the house registered in the name of Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
The properties at around dozens of locations were seized by the district administration of various districts on the recommendations of the SIA.
“Today on 24.12.2022 in Pulwama, Kulgam, Budgam and Srinagar districts, properties at a dozen locations worth Rs. 122.89 crores approximately after being notified by concerned DMs on the recommendation of SIA J&K, have been barred with restrictions on usage and entry,” the SIA said.

“These premises and structures have been barred and entry and usage have been prohibited,” the SIA said.
The SIA said during seizure proceedings it was found that about a dozen business establishments in Kulgam including a shopping complex at Magam in Budgam are currently running from these JeI properties on rent basis.
“After due diligence, it was decided that these would be allowed to continue so that private persons who may not have any connections with JeI and are only tenants paying rent to JeI, are not penalised and their livelihood not impaired,” the statement issued by the SIA said.
The SIA said that these properties were notified and seized in order to choke the availability of funds for secessionist activities and to dismantle the ecosystem of anti-national elements and militant networks hostile to the country.
The properties that have been seized are Non-functional Darsgah over 4 marlas of land at Nowbal Kulgam; land measuring 14 marlas on which a mosque and 4 shops exist at Qaimoh Kulgam; one building and 03 shops over land measuring 01 kanal and 14 marla at Redwani Kulgam; land measuring 01 marla on which 01 Kuthar exists at Hawoora Kulgam; and measuring 16 kanals and 18 marlas in Kulgam; Al-Huda Health Care Centre, Shops and school building over land measuring 6 kanals 18 marlas and 3.25 sirsai through Ghulam Qadir son of Abdul Salam Wani of Gusoo Rajpora and Ghulam Ahmad Ahrar son of Qutub Din of Shopian; four storey building on land measuring 1 kanal and 03 marlas at Awantipora through Ameer Tehsil Awantipora; land measuring 02 kanals and 11 marla at Ompora Budgam; land measuring 02 kanals and 09 marla at Ompora Budgam; land measuring 02 marlas and 136 sirsai at Ompora Budgam; land measuring 01 kanal at Pallar Budgam; land measuring 06 kanals at Chandpora Budgam; land measuring 01 kanals and 10 marla at Sholipora Budgam; land measuring 01 marla at Pethmakhama, Magam Budgam; land measuring 06 Marla at Mazhama Magam, Budgam; Madina Shopping Complex over 03 marlas of land at Magam in Srinagar; land measuring 01 kanal and 17 marla at Khushipura Shalteng, Srinagar; land measuring 01 kanal and 03 marla at Khushipura Shalteng Srinagar and two storey residential house over 17 marlas and 199 Sft at Barzulla South, Srinagar in the name of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Firdous Ahmad Asmi son of Ghulam Nabi Asmi.
The SIA said that ground floor of the house registered in Geelani’s name comprises 4 rooms with kitchen and 2 bedrooms for residential purposes and as per rent deed has been occupied by one Shahzada Aurangzeb son of Hakeem Ghulam Nabi of Moolu Chitragam, Shopian since November 2018.
It said that Aurangzeb is permanent member of JeI and has also served as Amir of district Shopian. He is presently working as Academic Officer at Jamait-u-Banaat (a women college affiliated with JKBOSE and University of Kashmir) Lal Bazar, Srinagar since 2020.
“Earlier, he has also served as Principal at Siraj-ul-Uloom Shopian. A notarized Rent Deed has also been executed in this regard in September 2020 for a period of five years at a monthly rent of Rs 1000. However, no rent has till date been paid. From the search carried out, one mobile phone of the tenant with one SIM inserted in it has been recovered and seized”.
The SIA has identified 188 JeI properties across J&K which have either been notified or are under the process of being notified for further legal action.
