JAMMU, Aug 19: The Special Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu has arrested from Delhi a key accused in a case linked to smuggling of arms, explosives and narcotics from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
Mohammad Javed, a resident of Poonch, had fled the scene after his three accomplices were arrested along with a huge cache of arms, explosives and narcotics near the border fence in Karmara area of Poonch on the intervening night of May 30 and 31, the officials said.
They said the SIA, after taking over the case on July 6, located the presence of the absconding militant in Delhi and he was subsequently arrested by its special team.
“An attempt was made by four associates in a narco terror module to smuggle drugs and explosives into India across the border fence at Poonch. The accused persons were intercepted by Sikh LI and apprehended with arms, ammunition, IEDs and heroin,” the officials aid, adding upon investigation it was revealed that the group of four persons (of which one had absconded from the spot) were being supervised by key accused Mohd Javed who was also absconding.
With technical surveillance and human intelligence, it was ascertained that Mohd Javed was hiding in Delhi, where a team of SIA was dispatched and Mohd Javed was apprehended.
Further investigation into aspects of cross border operation of this narco terror syndicate is ongoing at SIA Jammu.
Meanwhile, security forces launched searches at Panj Gali in Dhakkikot area of Reasi district this morning after reports that an absconding militant was traced there. Body of his injured associate was recovered yesterday.
Reports of an infiltration attempt having been foiled by the troops in Mendhar sector of Poonch district were also received but there was no official confirmation.
