SI opens firing, escapes

JAMMU, June 19: A Sub Inspector tonight opened firing in the house of his sister’s in-laws at village Channu Chak under the jurisdiction of Kanachak police station but no one was injured.
Police said Sub Inspector Sukhbir Singh of Rajouri had gone to the house of his sister’s in-laws at Channu Chak to resolve a dispute when he opened firing either with a revolver or a pistol. However, the shots missed and there were no injuries.
Police parties rushed to the spot and seized the fired cartridge. The SI had managed to escape from the spot leaving behind his private Santro car, which has been seized by police.
Police added that it was being ascertained as to whether the police officer had used service weapon or private weapon in the firing.
“Things would be cleared after questioning of the Sub Inspector after his arrest,” they said, adding that a case has been registered at Kanachak police station for further investigations.
