JAMMU, Feb 14: Shri Ram Sena Jammu and Kashmir today observed Martyrs Day at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk, Jewel, Jammu. MLA Jammu East Rajesh Gupta was chief guest, while Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Kiran Wattal was guest of honour on the occasion. A number of Sena activists attended the function and paid floral homage to the martyrs.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ram Sena state president Rajiv Mahajan highlighted the importance of the day. He said that on this day in 1931 the great heroes of freedom struggle, Sardar Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru and Sukhdev were announced death sentence.
Expressing serious repercussions of influence of the Western culture over Indian culture, Mahajan said it is most unfortunate that we Indians have forgotten the great sacrifices of our freedom fighters because of whom we are a free nation today. We are discarding our Indian culture and inclining towards Western culture which is not a good endeavor, he added & lamented that   instead of remembering our freedom heroes, we celebrate Valentine’s day- a foreign event.
Mahajan appealed to all Indian fellows to show due respect to freedom fighters, observe Indian events and discard Western ones. Observe Martyrs Day instead of Valentine’s Day in a gesture of tribute to the great freedom fighters and in the interest of Indian culture from going to ruin, he said.
Others present on the occasion were Ajay Gupta, Bal Krishan Arora, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pritam Sharma, Rajesh Kesari, Rajesh Pandita, Naveen Raina and others.
