Showman’ of bollywood film industry Raj Kapoor remembers on his 93th birth anniversary

KOLKATA: Legendary director and known as the ‘showman’ of the industry Raj Kapoor remembered today on his 93rd birth  anniversary.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Union Ministers and several B-town celebrities took to micro-blogging platform Twitter to remembered the legendary Raj Kapoor on  the occasion.     “Remembering the legendary Raj Kapoor on his birth anniversary,” Ms Banerjee posted on her social networking page.

The ”Nightingale” of Bollywood and Bharat Ratna recipient Lata Mangeshkar in her  tweet said,  “Namaskar. Aaj mashhoor nirmaata, nirdeshak, abhineta, jihne sangeet mein vishesh ruchi thi aur jo khud kai saaz bajaate aur gaate the aise manan kalakar Raj Kapoor ji ki jayanti hai.Main is bahuguni kalakar ko pranam karti hun.”

Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor tweeted, “Happy Birthday to the Greatest Showman of Indian Cinema Mr. Raj Kapoor! A legend, who taught us valuable lessons of life. You will always live on in our hearts sir!”

Renowned singer and musician Anup Jalota  in his tweet said, “Heartiest tribute to one of the most prominent figure in the history.. the emperor of kapoor dynasty! #RajKapoor Sahab you are still the reason many of us aspire to become a member of B-Town family.”

Union Minister of State (Ind Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region. MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh tweeted, “Remembering Bollywood’s greatest Showman on his birth anniversary. “Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan, Iske Siva Jana Kahan?” So said Raj Kapoor.”

Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal in his tweet said, “The Show Must Go on” The most famous line from the Person of Century #RajKapoor Sir Wishing A very Happy Birthday to greatest showman of Hindi cinema.”

Born on December 14, 1924, Kapoor is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actors and filmmakers in the history of Hindi cinema. At the age of ten, he appeared in films for the first time, in 1945’s Inquilab. After acting in several films over the next 12 years, Raj Kapoor’s big break came with the lead role in Neel Kamal (1947) opposite Madhubala in her first role as a leading lady.

In 1948, at the age of twenty-four, he established his own studio, RK Films, and became the youngest film director of his time making his directorial debut with Aag starring himself, Nargis, Kamini Kaushal and Premnath. (AGENCIES)
