JAMMU, Dec 6: Up in arms against unprecedented delay in release of the final selection list, the candidates, who had appeared in the interviews for the post of Warden in Jail Police of the Prison Department, continued their hunger strike on 5th consecutive day here today at Press Club.
The protesting candidates said they would not let up their struggle until their demands are conceded. Amid slogans, the protestors including those on hunger strike, demanded early release of the final selection list, which was pending for last more than three years due to unknown reasons.
Reiterating their resolve to continue with their agitation, the protestors warned the Government not to test their patience and release final selection list, failing which they said they would further intensify their agitation.
Alleging that no recruitment took place in the Prison Department since 1995 and there are more than 2000 vacancies, they said notwithstanding the fact that the department is facing acute shortage of manpower, the State Government is delaying final selection of the candidates.
The protesting candidates urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally look into the matter for getting the selection list released.
Meanwhile, vice-president, Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC), Pranav Shagotra, general secretary, Manjeet Singh and general secretary, Assembly, Hiranagar, Romi Sharma, visited the venue of hunger strike and extended their support to agitating candidates.
